WordCamp Montclair

I regret to announce that the WordCamp Montclair 2020 team has decided to cancel this year’s event. Not completely knowing the gravity of the COVID-19 / coronavirus pandemic in early April, we first tried to postpone for October. After seeing many WordCamps even as far out as November going virtual or canceling, I put it to a vote and the team decided it best to cancel our 2020 event.

I’d like to thank everyone that contributed their time, talents, and money to this event. Our amazing sponsors who generously wrote large checks to help fund all the activities we had planned. All of the high-quality speaker submissions we received for presentations and workshops. All the folks that bought tickets believing our event was worth the cost of entry. The volunteers at WordCamp Central for their time and guidance. And, of course, the volunteers that made up our amazing organizing team. You all stepped up and got things done with energy and enthusiasm. I cannot thank you all enough.

While this is disappointing, I’m hoping to lead this event again when it is safe to do so. When that time comes, I’d be grateful to have the level of support and excitement everyone showed for WordCamp Montclair 2020.

To all sponsors and ticket purchasers, we are in the process of working with WordCamp Central to refund your money. If in a week or so you do not receive a refund, please let us know via our contact form and we will investigate.

As we’ve already announced, WordCamp Montclair 2020 has been postponed and will now take place on October 3rd and 4th. That said, we are continuing to monitor how the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic plays out over the summer, and will decide whether this will be an in-person event as originally planned or a free virtual one.

For those that have purchased tickets: Your tickets are of course good for the event in October. If you would like a refund, please contact us and we will have that processed for you no questions asked. If we do end up having a free virtual event all purchased tickets will be refunded.

WordCamp Montclair 2020 Team

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic sweeping the world, the organizing team has decided to postpone WordCamp Montclair. The new WordCamp dates are October 3-4, 2020. All venues and activities at this time will remain the same.

We will be reaching out to all attendees and sponsors about the new dates and offer refunds if requested. We will also be reaching out to any person that submitted a presentation or workshop to confirm the new dates.

WordCamp Montclair: October 3rd & 4th, 2020 – Montclair, NJ

If you’ve ever been to a WordCamp, you know how important and impactful the event can be. Come and share your WordPress knowledge with our community!

WordCamp Montclair is looking for speakers and workshop facilitators who will educate, inspire, and inform attendees about topics related to WordPress.

The submission form below can be used to send your proposal for any type of session: a presentation with or without slides, a hands-on workshop, a demonstration of a tool or workflow, or something else. If you have multiple session ideas, please submit each one separately, and please limit yourself to no more than three proposals.

Sessions will fall into one of the following formats:

• 30 minute talks with an additional 10 minute Q&A.
• 90 minute workshops (Sunday only)

The deadline to submit your proposal(s) is Friday, August 14th, 2020 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Do you know someone you would like to hear speak? If you would like to nominate someone to speak, please get in touch with us via our contact form to let us know who it is, the topic of the talk, and a way for us to contact the speaker.

General guidelines for speakers and facilitators

• Sessions should be relevant to the world of WordPress. We are looking for a mix of talks and workshops that will be engaging for attendees of all levels, from people starting out with WordPress, to theme and plugin developers, and anyone who is involved in managing WordPress sites of any size. We’re looking for innovative content that expands the knowledge of the WordPress community with new and interesting ideas, tools, and examples.
• You do not need to be a professional speaker, but you should be knowledgeable about the topic you are presenting or the workshop material you are facilitating.
• You are encouraged to apply even if you have never spoken at a WordCamp before. If you need some inspiration, take a look at some of the great talks published on WordPress TV.
• All submissions will be reviewed by the organizing team. We will use a semi-blind submission review process to encourage diversity in speakers and topics. The initial review and ranking of topics will be solely based on the title and description of the talk. Be prepared to review and refine your speaker slides, workshop content or other material for your presentation with an organizer prior to the event.
• Speakers will be provided free admission to WordCamp Montclair, but we cannot reimburse travel, lodging, or other expenses at this time.
• All speakers must agree to follow our Code of Conduct.

This year we’ve selected the beautiful, spacious, state-of-the-art School of Communications and Media building at Montclair State University. The first-floor vendor booths area offers a gorgeous vista of the Manhattan skyline. This location is only 30 minutes from New York City.

WordCamp Montclair will be held on October 3rd, 2020 at Montclair State University’s School of Communication building, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair NJ.

We will also have a Contributor Day/Help Desk on Sunday, October 4th. Location TBD.
